A Helping Hand With the New:

Canada’s Home Electrification Toolkit

CACEA recently hosted a webinar introducing Canada’s Home Electrification Toolkita practical resource designed to help homeowners make informed decisions about switching from fossil fuel appliances to electric alternatives.

This Toolkit is a valuable guide for understanding available electric options, knowing what to replace and when, and having confident conversations with trades, and is a great tool for Energy Advisors to share with clients as they start planning their own home electrification journey.

New Home Step Code Rebate

If you’re building a new home, FortisBC’s New Home Program offers a great opportunity to save while building to high efficiency standards. Homes that achieve BC Energy Step Code 4 can qualify for up to $15,000, and Step Code 5 can qualify for up to $20,000.

There’s also additional support available, up to $7,000, to help cover the cost of working with energy advisors, envelope specialists, or mechanical designers during the planning stages.

The program is open to builders, developers, and Indigenous communities looking to build more efficient, comfortable, and future-ready homes.

Net Zero Homes – Healthy & Comfortable

The Canadian Home Builders’ Association (CHBA) has shared a great article on why Net Zero Homes are about more than just energy efficiency. They offer better air quality, more consistent indoor temperatures, and a quieter, more comfortable space to live in. It’s a clear, approachable look at what makes these homes stand out and why they matter.

If you’re thinking about applying these ideas to your next project, having the right support can make things a lot easier, from understanding code requirements to finding the right rebates and building strategies.

Step Code Updates

BC’s Energy Step Code requirements now vary by community. Most areas require new homes to meet Step 3, but some municipalities have adopted even higher standards. EL-2 or higher Zero Carbon Step Code is also being rolled out in some regions.

Check with your municipality or visit the Community Energy Association’s Step Code page for the latest step code requirements in your area.

Mini Project Shoutout!

Tucked away in the woods on beautiful Bowen Island, this custom home is a true showstopper. Not only does it look incredible, it also performs exceptionally well when it comes to energy efficiency.

We had the pleasure of conducting the blower door test, and it came in at an impressive 0.69 ACH @ 50 Pa, a major achievement for a remote build like this one!

DEFINITION OF THE MONTH

F280-12 Heating and Cooling
