FEATURED PROJECT

Vancouver Net Zero Duplex

We are pleased to showcase an East Vancouver Net Zero Duplex home developed and built by Ess & Ess Enterprises Ltd

This CHBA Net Zero duplex achieves exceptional efficiency through a high-performance building envelope featuring airtight construction, superior insulation, and high-efficiency windows that maintain thermal performance. To offset annual energy consumption, rooftop solar panels work in tandem with advanced mechanical systems to minimize environmental impact and lower long-term operating costs. Every design choice prioritizes rigorous net-zero standards to deliver year-round comfort with maximum energy savings.

The duplex was their first CHBA Net Zero build. With some challenges, our team helped get this project to the finish line with sucess! Air tightness requirements were met easily thanks to mid-construction tests for each duplex unit and early integration of Aerobarrier. When blower door testing occurred, the site was clear and open for us, allowing a strong focus on air tightness.

Energy Efficiency Highlights:

  • Under slab insulation: Effective R-14
  • Foundation walls: Effective R-22
  • AG Walls: Effective R-22
  • Roof: Effective R-50
  • Fenestrations: windows under USI 1.1, doors under USI 1.22
  • Heating: Cold Climate air source heat pump
  • Domestic hot water: Integrated heat pump hot water tank, COP 3.843
  • Air tightness: 0.86 ACH @ 50 Pa
  • Renewable: 26 PV solar panels / unit, 11,509 & 12,616 kWh/year

DEFINITION OF THE MONTH

Air-to-Water Heat Pump

A highly efficient, sustainable HVAC system that extracts renewable thermal energy from outdoor air to heat water for radiant flooring, radiators, and domestic hot water, while also providing cooling. It serves as a, sustainable electrification, all-in-one alternative to fossil fuel boilers and furnaces, operating effectively even in cold climates.

It can be one of the space and/or water heating system options for achieving higher zero carbon step codes. Please click HERE to find out how we can help you with higher step code projects!

Please remember to book your mid construction and final blower door tests at least two weeks in advance!
Friendly reminder to anyone needing to book their blower door tests. Please give us a call or email us at manager@capitalhomeenergy.com two weeks in advance to ensure we can have you on the schedule. This will ensure a quicker turnaround time for your reports!

We recommend contacting us for your mid-construction test just before the insulation starts.
