From May 1, 2023: BC Building Code Changes

A reminder that the BC Building Code changes are coming into effect on May 1st. They enable 20% better energy efficiency and provide an opt-in Zero Carbon Step Code (formerly known as the Carbon Pollution Standard). Please click HERE to read in more detail.

The Time to Act is Now

The new IPCC report highlights just how important our actions today are going to be for our future. It’s a lengthy report but a few messages are clear. The world needs to peak GHG emissions by 2025, or at the very least, halve them by 2030. Net zero emissions should be the goal for 2050. This page also has a great infographic for the visual readers like myself.

CHBA: Building Science for New Homes

What you will learn

This course provides and overview of building science issues and sound business practices. This course is a pre-requisite to become a certified Net Zero, R-2000 or ENERGY STAR builder, and is suggested for participating in the EnerGuide for New Homes and Built Green programs.

What you will learn

The CHBA Net Zero Training courses are only available through CHBA Qualified Net Zero Service Organizations, and delivered by CHBA Qualified Net Zero Trainers. This course is a requirement for builders/energy advisors participating in the CHBA Net Zero Home Labelling program, and covers advancements in technology and innovations in the housing industry.

DEFINITION OF THE MONTH

Vapour Diffusion

The movement of water vapour between two areas caused by a difference in vapour pressure, independent of air movement. The rate of diffusion is determined by (1) the difference in vapour pressure; (2) the distance the vapour must travel; and (3) the permeability of the material to water vapour (hence the selection of materials of low permeability for use as vapour diffusion retarders in buildings.)

Please remember to book your mid construction and final blower door tests at least two weeks in advance!

Friendly reminder to anyone needing to book their mid-construction and final blower door tests. Please give us a call two weeks in advance to ensure we can have you on the schedule. This will ensure a quicker turnaround time for your reports! We recommend contacting us for your mid-construction test when insulation has started.
