Net Zero Home Label to Recognize Renovated Homes that Produce as Much Energy as They Consume

On Octover 28th, the Canadian Home Builders’ Association (CHBA) officially launched the Net Zero Home Labelling Programs for Renovations.
CHBA’s Net Zero Home Labelling Program for Renovations is a new initiative (read the press release here) that continues CHBA’s long history in leading energy efficiency in residential construction. It builds on the existing Net Zero Home Labelling Program for new homes, which has been running since its pilot in 2015.
The Program provides the industry with a clearly defined and rigorous two-tiered technical requirement that recognizes Net Zero and Net Zero Ready Homes (now both for new and existing homes), as well as the builders and renovators who provide them.

BC Launches CleanBC Roadmap to 2030
|
|
|
This week, the B.C. government launched the CleanBC Roadmap to 2030 – a stronger, more ambitious climate plan to reach the province’s 2030 emissions reduction targets and build a strong, low carbon economy.
Highlights of the CleanBC Roadmap for the buildings pathway include:
- New carbon pollution standards to make all new buildings net-zero emissions by 2030
- Increased energy efficiency requirements, including a requirement that after 2030, or earlier where feasible, all new space and water heating equipment sold and installed in B.C. will be at least 100% efficient
- Updated regulations to shift the focus of utility-funded efficiency programs from conventional gas-fired heating equipment such as furnaces and boilers, to building-envelope improvements and heat pumps
- A commitment to increase the price on carbon pollution to meet or exceed the federal benchmark, with supports for people and businesses
- B.C. home sale listings will include an energy efficiency rating or label
- Developing a Low Carbon Building Materials Strategy by 2023 that includes a holistic approach to decarbonizing buildings

CBC: How to get the most out of an Energy Evaluation
