FEATURED PROJECT

Net Zero Project in White Rock

This month, we are featuring this beautiful home that was recently CHBA Net Zero certified! Built by Naikoon Contracting and designed by Grant Architecture Studio, this beautiful waterfront property produces as much on site energy as it consumes on an annual basis.

We featured this project last year while it was in progress and now it is complete!

Characteristics of this home include:

  • ENERGY STAR® Certified Home
  • ICF foundation walls and some above grade walls (Effective R-35 to 40)
  • Exterior insulation on above grade walls (Effective R-30 to R-40)
  • Geothermal water source heat pump for in-floor radiant heating directly from the Pacific!
  • High-performance triple glazed windows
  • Zehnder HRV
  • A very low airtightness score of 0.99 ACH  thanks to the help from Airtight Solutions with their AeroBarrier technology

STUDY: B.C Homebuilders Share their Insights

To better understand the impact of the BC Energy Step Code on housing design and costs over time, BC Housing recently surveyed 69 of the province’s homebuilders, and summarized the results in the BC Energy Step Code Market Response Monitoring Report. Among its conclusions, respondents noted that increasing materials and labour costs have had a much larger impact on construction costs than the energy-efficiency requirements of the BC Energy Step Code.

DEFINITION OF THE MONTH

Thermal Break
A material of low conductivity used in a building assembly to reduce the flow of heat by conduction from one side of the assembly to the other.  A good example of a thermal break is adding exterior insulation on wood frame walls.

Please remember to book your mid construction tests at least two weeks in advance!

Friendly reminder to all builders needing to book their mid construction blower door tests. Please give us a call two weeks in advance to ensure we can have you on the schedule and to ensure a quicker turnaround time for your reports! We recommend contacting us when insulation has started.
