FEATURED PROJECT

Net Zero Home in Pemberton, BC

We’re showcasing this beautiful CHBA Net Zero home in Pemberton by Coast Essential Construction.

Being a Net Zero Home, the house will produce 52 GJ/year on an annual basis. This means the home will produce as much renewable energy as the home consumes.  (GJ = gigajoules).

We really enjoy working on high level projects like this one. Not only will the custom build meet the CHBA Net Zero standard, but it is also designed to achieve Step Code 5 of the BC Energy Step Code.

Coast Essential Construction is a Squamish based company that designs and builds high-performance homes throughout the Sea-to-Sky corridor and the North Shore of British Columbia.

The home has all the characteristics of a High-performance build, including:

  • Below grade walls – ICF R-22 + 2×4 R-14 batt- Effective R-35.5
  • Above grade walls – Exterior Gutex continuous insulation + 2×8 – Effective R-43.5
  • Ceilings – Vault/Flat – Effective R-51.67
  • Air barrier – Exterior house wrap/smart membrane
  • Renewable – 14,600 kWh production Photovoltaic Solar Array
  • Heating/Cooling – Ductless mini-split heat pumps
  • Domestic hot water – Sanden CO2 heat pump water heater
  • Air tightness target – 1 ACH or lower
  • Step Code target – 5

The house is currently under construction, and we’re very excited for the mid construction air leakage testing, that will be coming soon….. stay tuned for updates!

Heat Pump Rebate Updates

CleanBC Better Homes and Home Renovation Rebate Program Updates

Effective July 1, 2022, customers who want to apply for a heat pump rebate under the CleanBC Better Homes and Home Renovation Rebate program will need to have the work completed by a Home Performance Contractor Network (HPCN) member.

Heat pump rebate applications with invoices dated on or after July 1, 2022 will only be accepted if the customer has used an HPCN member.

FAQS

What happens if a customer does not use an HPCN member?
Applications with invoices dated on or after July 1, 2022 will require the heat pump to be installed by an HPCN member or HPCN In Progress to apply for a heat pump rebate. If the contractor is not listed as an HPCN member or HPCN In Progress the customer will not be to be able to apply for a heat pump rebate.
If the heat pump was installed prior to July 1, 2022, the customer is not required to use an HPCN member to be able to apply for a heat pump rebate.

Where can customers find the list of HPCN and HPCN In Progress members?
betterhomesbc.ca/find-a-contractor or bchydro.com/homerebates

What if a customer can’t find an HPCN member in their area?
Customers can contact homerebates@bchydro.com for support to find a contractor to work with. If the homeowner has identified a contractor they would like to work with, who is not a HPCN member, they can ask their contractor to become a HPCN member.
