CleanBC Residential New Construction Survey

CHBA BC members:

BC Hydro and the Province of British Columbia are inviting developers and builders to participate in a survey. This aims to help them better understand the industry’s perspective on the energy efficiency of new homes and some of the programs that have supported this, in particular, the CleanBC Better Homes Residential New Construction Program.

This survey is intended for companies that have not participated in the CleanBC program. The survey should take approximately 10 to 15 minutes to complete and for doing so, you can enter your name in a draw for one of ten $100 gift cards to your choice of Home Depot, Canadian Tire, Starbucks or Tim Hortons.

The survey deadline is November 30, 2023.

Click here to complete the survey.

Important Changes to FortisBC’s New Home Program

You may have heard that there are some upcoming changes to FortisBC’s rebate and incentive programs for natural gas equipment. On June 30, 2023, the BC Government made a regulation change that discontinued FortisBC’s ability to offer rebates and incentives for gas equipment less than 100% energy efficient.

To aid in the transition to the next generation of rebates for residential new construction, FortisBC has implemented a pre-registration form for projects which started in 2023 or earlier. To be eligible for the current suite of rebates, pre-registration must be submitted by December 31, 2023.

For more information, including details on what’s changing, click here.

If you have recently completed a new construction with gas heating and achieved step code 3 compliance with us, and have not applied for the FortisBC new home rebate, please email Hannah at manager@capitalhomeenergy.com.

Natural Resources Canada’s Local Energy Efficiency Partnership (LEEP) workshops are once again coming to BC. Organized through CHBA National and delivered through Provincial local CHBAs, LEEP accelerates energy efficient construction by enabling builders and renovators to reduce their time and risk identifying, exploring, and adopting innovations in the residential construction industry.

The LEEP format has been expanded to cover the following topics:

  • The Integrated Design Process and how it can help to meet and exceed code compliance while keeping costs low
  • Best practices in new construction to achieve Step 4 and 5 of the Energy Step Code, as well as Zero Carbon Step Code levels
  • Best practices in deep energy retrofits, aiming to prepare the building industry for future retrofit codes and maximize the value of applying existing incentive programs in BC to retrofit projects.

The next opportunities to attend a LEEP Forum in your region are:

Further LEEP sessions for the Fraser Valley and Okanagan are planned for early 2024.
