Net Zero Home Labelling Program

The following program requirements will come into effect January 1, 2023. As described below, both new requirements are optional for a specified period of time until they become mandatory.

1. Indoor Air Quality (IAQ) Checklist

  • January 1, 2023 – December 31, 2023 completion of the IAQ Checklist is optional.
  • January 1, 2024 completion of the IAQ Checklist will be mandatory.

2. Building Envelope Performance Target

  • January 1, 2023 – December 31, 2023 compliance with the building envelope performance target may be achieved using either target:
    • At least 33% improvement over reference house using space heating energy load (as described in v1.3 of the Technical Requirements)
    • At least 25% improvement over reference house using gross space heat loss.
  • January 1, 2024 compliance with the building envelope performance target must be achieved with:
    • At least 30% improvement over reference house using gross space heat loss.

Capital Home Energy is a drop off location for this years 27th annual Coats for Kids Campaign, running from Monday, November 7th to Thursday, December 8th in support of the Lower Mainland and Surrey Christmas Bureaus, two groups whose many initiatives help to provide a warmer winter and brighter holiday season for families in need..

We are looking for donations of gently used clothing (must be washed and bagged). New toys are also appreciated. Please note, all clothing donations to be collected in bags. No loose items to be accepted.

2022 BC Building Code Update

British Columbia has released proposed revisions to the BC Building Code 2018 (BCBC 2018). Some changes include minimum energy efficiency requirements for most Part 9 and Part 3 buildings and an opt-in carbon pollution standard.

Upcoming Workshop + Training Courses

  1. High Performance Building Envelopes presented by Hamid Design Build and hosted by the local CHBA

This whole-day workshop is based on several examples and case studies that will explain the differences between a high performance and energy efficient building and will familiarize participants with the concept of a holistic approach towards building envelope energy efficiency to satisfy performance criteria such as moisture management, thermal comfort, durability, indoor air quality.

The workshops will run from 8:00am to 4:30 pm and each workshop will cover the same content. Each workshop is approved for 7.5 CPD points. Please join us at a location nearest you!

 

  1. Communicating The Value Of Energy Efficient Homes presented by Gord Cooke of Building Knowledge Canada hosted by local Builder’s Association

This workshop will empower attendees with the communication skills to present the increased value of the BC Building Code Step Three code changes coming early in 2023, and to encourage homeowners, builders and decision makers to opt for the even better performance of Steps Four and Five.

A material, membrane or coating designed to keep moisture coming through the foundation wall from penetrating the interior foundation insulation or the wood members supporting the insulation and interior finishes.

Please remember to book your mid construction and final tests at least two weeks in advance!

Please give us a call two weeks in advance to ensure we can have you on the schedule and to ensure a quicker turnaround time for your reports! We recommend contacting us for your mid construction test when insulation has started.
