FEATURED PROJECT

Mount Pleasant | Net Zero Labeled Duplex

Builder | Averra Developments

Congratulations to Averra for the first ever CHBA Net-Zero duplex in Vancouver.  An inspired team of professionals came together to plan, develop, and construct these exceptional homes located on a quiet side street just 2-blocks off Main Street.

Averra has become one of the premier Net Zero home builders in the Lower Mainland of British Columbia, and this duplex exemplifies top-quality finishing and high performance efficiency.

A Net Zero duplex is very challenging to achieve. It is very important to note that each side of the duplex achieved Net Zero.  This means both homes are individually tested for air tightness, energy modelled, and verified that it can generate enough solar PV energy to offset the home’s energy consumption on an annual basis.  These are requirements of the CHBA Net Zero Homes program, the EnerGuide Rating System, and The City of Vancouver.

Georgie Awards

On Saturday May 20th, BC’s top home builders and renovators gathered at the Vancouver Hyatt Hotel with a colourful Wizard of Oz theme to celebrate the year’s best residential construction projects at the CHBA’s Georgie Awards®. Now in its 31st year, the awards are BC’s most prestigious homebuilding, renovation, and housing awards.

A wonderful evening had by all. Feeling grateful to have been associated with RDC Fine Homes for the award of ‘Best Energy Labelled Whole House Renovation’. As Energy Advisors, we play a comparatively small part in projects like this, but it’s a great feeling knowing we help in the success for Energy Efficient homes. It was also such a pleasure to award a trophy to Kingdom Builders for Best Energy Labelled Home – Custom and to be a sponsor for the event. Thanks everyone involved, looking forward to next year already!

DEFINITION OF THE MONTH

Thermal Break

A thermal break is a term used for insulation placed between two thermal conductors to reduce the flow of heat.  This is often used  as a  barrier in a window or door frame. Thermally broken door systems are used when there is a difference between indoor and outdoor temperatures. Metal is a good conductor and poor insulator.   A thermal break is created when a material of low thermal conductivity is placed between the door’s conductive materials to stop energy transfer. This thermal break acts as a barrier that reduces heat conduction through the door’s metal framing. Another example of a thermal break in construction would be exterior insulation, or insulation between the floor slab and foundation walls and footings.

Please remember to book your mid construction and final blower door tests at least two weeks in advance!
Friendly reminder to anyone needing to book their mid-construction and final blower door tests. Please give us a call two weeks in advance to ensure we can have you on the schedule. This will ensure a quicker turnaround time for your reports! We recommend contacting us for your mid-construction test when insulation has started.
