What are CHBA Net-Zero Homes?
CHBA Net-Zero Homes are home designed, modelled, and constructed to produce just as much renewable energy as they consume annually. Net-Zero homes are up to to 80% more energy efficient than a typical new home build . To put this into perspective, the EnerGuide score for a Net-Zero house would be 0 GJ (gigajoules) per year, measuring the natural gas energy content. Comparing this to an average home score, Net-Zero homes are 8 times more efficient than average homes.
The Canadian Home Builders’ Association (CHBA) launched the first Net-Zero labeling program in May 2017. The program provides both consumers and industry figures with clear requirements for Net-Zero requirements and identifies the builders and renovators who provide them. For more information on this program, visit the official CHBA Net-Zero page!

Since CHBA Net-Zero Homes are built to higher standards than conventional homes, they are extremely air-tight and well insulated. Certified Net-Zero homes are extremely comfortable for your family or tenants and creates a more durable, sustainable house. Net-Zero houses have lower greenhouse gas emission ratings, which continues to contribute to British Columbia’s reduced emission targets and helps maintain a better environment for our local communities and wildlife.

Our Team’s Differentiators
As certified energy advisors, we provide energy modelling for new homes and we can ensure your home meets the Net-Zero target! Our team of experts implements the best energy solutions for building design, ensuring all components are integrated as a total home energy solution. When all components of an energy efficiency optimized home work in synergy, achieving the energy standards needed to be labelled as Net-Zero is easily attainable.
Net-Zero home designs follow stringent airtightness guidelines, and ensuring that each home is sealed off completely in all areas is a critical step. During construction, having one of our energy advisors conduct a blower door airtightness test is the best way to ensure the design is on track to meet the highest airtightness score possible. Blower door airtightness tests are an extremely useful and cost-saving tool when addressing hard-to-spot issues before the home is complete and these areas are no longer accessible.
